This is a little weird ^^ I honestly don't know how to start.
I guess the best way to start is to tell you why I started this blog. The main purpose is just to document my attempt to complete a 13-week Walk/Run Program that was put together by sports doctors from The Sports Medicine Council of British Columbia (see book here). Run a 10K after the program, maintain the pace and then eventually complete a 21K before I move to another continent mid-2012.
So why blog it?
The book strongly recommended to keep a training journal throughout those 13 weeks, betteryet, throughout your life as a Runner. Apparently, it will help me cope with the frustration, keep the motivation and strive to run faster or farther. It will also allow me to travel back in time and remember what I felt should I go on a running hiatus, etc. etc. etc. I thought it sounded promising..so why not do it? Since I move around a lot and I always misplace things, a blog is most convenient ^^
I've never considered myself a runner nor athletic. I love sports. I've tried a lot of it but sadly, those sports didn't love me back. Maybe cos i easily get frustrated. I tried tennis, squash, swimming, wake boarding, volleyball, yoga, badminton, etc. I suck at most and for the rest, mediocre at best. If there was something I really enjoyed -- it was yoga. Bikram yoga. But heading to classes, paying an exuberant fee, limited availability of classes or spots in classes, I eventually gave it up and went back to my ever so sedentary lifestyle.
Until I got sick and thought of quitting smoking. I've been a smoker for the past 15 years, you see. I thought Running was what I needed to keep me away from the death-stick forever. I'd just think of how sick I was then or close to death haha or all the embarrassing huffing and puffing when I jog, when my legs what to go faster and farther but my lungs are giving up. It worked, so far. To date, am already on my 75th day of being nicotine-free. YAY
I ran, well more like walked two 5Ks since then and trekked Timberlands (approx 14kms) twice. I am adamant to continue. Moreover, I'd like to improve on my running -- go faster and farther.
I am not getting any younger and all those high or low levels of uric acid, sugar, hemoglobin and what have yous make ageing worse. In addition to ageing, my skin also becomes worse and worse and worse in time. It's seriously disgusting.
Other than being healthy, it is also said that Running will help you focus and find your center. There's too much going on and not going on in my life right now, I need to keep to my center in order to not get lost in the chaos. ^,^
In other words, this will be my journey to become a better person and to live a better life.
Will I make it or break it?
We'll see.
The Journey will start tomorrow
*crosses fingers*
